Robert Petway

Robert Petway (born October 18, 1907 in Yazoo City , Mississippi , † in May 1978 probably Chicago , Illinois ) was an American blues guitarist. His version of the trad. Catfish Blues (1941) was made into the hit Rollin 'Stone by Muddy Waters , after which the Rolling Stones were later named. Even Jimi Hendrix took the Catfish Blues on.

Little is known about his life. Petway is believed to have been born in Yazoo City on October 18, 1907. He had his only recording sessions in 1941 and 1942. There is only one photo of him. He lived in Mississippi , where he also performed, often with Tommy McClennan .
