Robert Porrett

Robert Porrett (born September 22, 1783 in London , † November 25, 1868 ibid) was a British chemist.

Porrett's father ran the arms and ammunition stores in the Tower of London, and Robert Porrett followed in his footsteps. In 1795 he was permanently employed and later head of the department. In 1850 he retired.

On the side he did chemical experiments. In 1808/09 he produced thiocyanic acid by converting Prussian blue with potassium sulfide . He recognized its composition of hydrogen cyanide and sulfur; Jöns Jacob Berzelius did not find the exact composition until 1820 . In 1814 he produced hexacyanoic acids.

In 1816 he discovered independently of Ferdinand Friedrich von Reuss , the electro-osmosis .
