Miliana ( Arabic مليانة, DMG Milyāna ) is a city in northern Algeria . 44,201 people live here (2008).
geography
Miliana is located in the district of the same name, which belongs to the province of Ain Defla . To the south lies the larger town of Khemis Miliana .
history
In Roman times , the originally Punic city of Zucchabar , which belonged to the province of Mauretania Caesariensis , was located here . Zucchabar was a bishopric in the 5th century, from which the titular bishopric of Zucchabar goes back.
The steam-powered tramway des Mines du Zaccar was operated in Miliana until 1950 .

Near Miliana is Côteaux du Zaccar, an Algerian wine-growing region .
traffic
The tramway des Mines du Zaccar opened up the iron ore mines on Mont Zaccar from 1904 to 1975 .
