Robert Sheldon, Baron Sheldon

Robert Edward Sheldon, Baron Sheldon (born September 13, 1923 - February 2, 2020 ) was a British politician ( Labor Party ).

He attended Burnley Grammar School and the University of London . Sheldon was an MP for Ashton-under-Lyne from 1964 to 2001 . From 1965 to 1966 he was a member of the Audit Committee and from 1983 to 1997 he was chairman of the committee. In 2001 he was succeeded by David Heyes and made a life peer as Baron Sheldon , of Ashton-under-Lyne in the County of Greater Manchester .

On May 18, 2015, Sheldon voluntarily retired under the regulations of the House of Lords Reform Act 2014 and left the House of Lords .
