Robert Sigl (politician)

Robert Sigl (born August 1, 1943 in Ober-Grafendorf ) is a former Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and engine driver. Sigl was a member of the National Council from 1989 to 1999 .

education and profession

Sigl attended elementary school in Ober-Grafendorf from 1949 to 1953 and then the local secondary school until 1957. Then Sigl learned the trade of machine fitter from 1957 to 1961 at the vocational school in St. Pölten and joined the ÖBB in 1961 . Sigl then completed an apprenticeship as a locomotive heater and worked in this profession for the ÖBB. Subsequently, Sigl was active as a steam, diesel and electric locomotive driver and machine foreman until 1996. He also graduated from the Mödling Social Academy from 1965 to 1966 .

politics

Sigl became involved in local politics early on and was a member of the Ober-Grafendorf municipal council between 1970 and 1985. He was also a managing member between 1975 and 1980. In the SPÖ local party, Sigl held the office of deputy local party chairman from 1963 to 1979, before taking over the office of local party chairman between 1979 and 1984. In addition, Sigl was a member of the SPÖ St. Pölten District Party Board from 1975 and deputy district party chairman from 1990. From 1980 he was a member of the SPÖ Federal Party Control Commission and from 1993 was control lobbier of the SPÖ Lower Austria .

Sigl was involved in the trade union for a long time, initially as a shop steward for ÖBB from 1967 to 1993 and also as chairman of the shop stewards committee for the St. Pölten train conveyance line between 1970 and 1988. Between 1974 and 1998 he held the office of chairman of the St. Pölten Railway Workers Union and from 1977 to 1990 he was also a member of the Chamber of Labor for Lower Austria. In 1979 he was elected to the state executive of the ÖGB Lower Austria, of which he was a member until 1996. In addition, he was district chairman of the ÖGB St. Pölten from 1988 to 1996. In addition, from 1990 Sigl was also the district chairman of the Austrian Children's Friends in St. Pölten and from 1993 to 2000 he held the office of federal finance officer of the Austrian Civil Protection Association.

Sigl represented the SPÖ in the National Council from June 6, 1989 to October 28, 1999.
