Robert Voisey

Robert Voisey (* 1969 ) is an American composer and music producer.

Voisey studied computer science at Stony Brook University in Long Island. During a composition course he met the Israeli composer Oded Zehavi , who invited him to study at the Tel Chai College in Upper Palestine. He lived in Israel for two years, where he worked and composed in a kibbutz. After returning to the USA, he graduated from Stony Brook University and worked in the computer industry until the late 1990s.

In 2000 he founded Vox Novus , a society for the promotion of contemporary composers and musicians. The group initially consisted of five composers who were friends, but quickly grew to over a hundred members. One of Vox Novus' most important projects under Voisey's direction is 60x60 , a series of one-hour CDs that have been released annually since 2003, to which 60 musicians contributed a 60-second piece. Around 3500 pieces were submitted for the project by 2500 composers from forty countries. As a result, the productions 60x60 Dance , 60x60 Video and Orchestra 60x60 were created . Other collage projects are States and Constellations.

Voisey also organizes the Composer's Voice Concert Series with Vox Novus , in which chamber music works by established and new contemporary composers are performed, and the Fifteen Minutes of Fame concert series , for which fifteen composers contribute a one-minute piece for a specific musician or a specific ensemble. In addition to pieces for the projects mentioned, Voisey u. a. the short opera Poppetje , premiered by the Remarkable Opera Brigade at Carnegie Hall .
