Roberto Dipiazza (born February 1, 1953 in Aiello del Friuli ) is an Italian entrepreneur and politician of the PDL (until 2009 Forza Italia ) and former and since June 20, 2016 reigning mayor of the city of Trieste .

Life

Dipiazza grew up in Trieste. After graduating from school, he began training as a retail salesman at a local supermarket chain and built up his own retail business through investments in the following years. In 1996 he joined the conservative Forza Italia and won the election as mayor of Muggia in the same year . From 2001 to 2011 he was mayor of Trieste . Dipiazza's first term as mayor of Trieste (2001-2006) coincided with the accession of Slovenia to the EU (2004), and he had a decisive influence on the political and economic opening of the city that this entailed .
