Roberto Musacchio

Roberto Musacchio (born September 3, 1956 in Miami / USA ) is an Italian politician of the Partito della Rifondazione Comunista (PRC).

Life and politics

Roberto Musacchio was politicized during his student days by the student protests of the 1960s and 1970s. Early on, he was involved in left-wing parties ( PdUP per il Comunismo , PCI ) and after the split in the Communist Party in 1991 , he helped to build the Rifondazione Comunista.

For the PRC in the constituency of Northeast Italy, he was a member of the European Parliament during the 6th electoral term (2004-09) . During this time he was part of the Confederal Group of the European United Left / Nordic Green Left (GUE / NGL). He was a board member of this parliamentary group and from May 22, 2007 to February 4, 2009 deputy chairman of the Temporary Committee on Climate Change . He was also an ordinary member of the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety and the delegation for relations with the countries of Southeast Europe .

In 2009 he left the PRC and joined the Movimento per la Sinistra (MpS) by Nichi Vendola . In the 2009 European elections , Musacchio stood for the Sinistra e Libertà (SeL) list , but was not re-elected. The Sinistra Ecologia Libertà (SEL) party emerged from SeL, to which he subsequently belonged.

Musacchio is married to Patrizia Sentinelli , who is also a politician and from 2006-08 was Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs in the Prodi II cabinet .
