Rock & Roll Racing (English spelling Rock N 'Roll Racing ) is a racing game by Silicon & Synapse (now Blizzard Entertainment ) from 1993 , which was released on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) and the Sega Mega Drive . In 2003 a port for the Game Boy Advance followed . It belongs to the fun racer genre and has a futuristic track scenario.

particularities

Rock & Roll Racing has several special features : As the name suggests, the game has a very rock-heavy soundtrack. Various rock classics, e.g. B. the song Born to Be Wild by the band Steppenwolf or Paranoid by Black Sabbath , can be heard during the races, which despite the limited sound technology of the consoles of the time, contributed greatly to the game atmosphere.

In contrast to other fun racers (such as Super Mario Kart ), the player does not look at the driver from behind, but isometrically , which makes the game clearer.

The game also has a very motivating tuning system for upgrading your own vehicle. This, the clearer racing perspective and the soundtrack brought the game many fans.

The game principle

You choose a character and buy a racing car with little starting capital. During the race you can shoot your opponents with rockets, lay mines and use a jump mechanism built into the racing car. The number of available extras is renewed every round. There are also two different types of bonuses distributed along the route. The first is a first aid kit that repairs the vehicle. The degree of repair need can be easily determined from the strength of the rising smoke. The second bonus is a fixed amount of money that enhances your own account.

After each race there is prize money which can be invested in the existing or in a new vehicle before a new start. It is up to the player whether he invests his prize money in a faster engine, better tires or something else. The number of available extras (rockets, etc.) can also be increased using autotuning.

After a certain number of races, the more or less successful performance of the player in this racing season decides whether the next level can be started with new, more difficult courses.

The career mode can also be played in pairs, whereby both drivers have to additively achieve the required number of points in order to advance a level.
