Rockingham is located on the south-west end of Perth on the coast and is approximately 35 to 55 kilometers from Perth city ​​center. The City Council is located in the Rockingham district, where around 14,500 people live (2016).

The Rockingham Council has ten members. The councilors are elected by the residents of the four wards (four each from Rockingham and Safety Bay Ward, one each from Baldivis and Coastal Ward). The mayor (mayor) and council chairman is also elected by all residents of the city.
