The Roe River is a river in the region Kimberley in Western Australia .
Its upper course begins at the foot of Bushfire Hill in the Prince Regent Nature Reserve . From here it flows for 66 km north until it into the bay of Prince Fredrick Harbor opens . It is part of the York Sound , which in turn is part of the Timor Sea .
The Roe River has five tributaries, the most important being the Moran River, smaller ones being the Wyulda Creek, Rufous Creek, Garimbu Creek and Gandjal Creek.
The Roe River was named in 1820 by Philip Parker King during his expedition on board the Mermaid . It bears its name after the father of John Septimus Roe, who is also on board . Prince Frederick Harbor, Prince Regent River, and the nearby Mount Trafalgar were also named on this trip. The first European to explore the full length of the Roe River was Frederick Brockman in 1884.
