Roger Pielke, jr.

Roger A. Pielke, Jr. (born November 2, 1968 ) is an American Professor in the Environmental Studies Program and Fellow of the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES) in Boulder, Colorado. He was director of the Center for Science and Technology Policy Research at the University of Colorado at Boulder from 2001 to 2007 .

Among other things, Pielke was visiting professor at Oxford University at the James Martin Institute for Science and Civilization of the Saïd Business School . He is interested, among other things, in the political aspects of science, political decision-making in unsafe situations, climate change , disaster control and world trade .

Pielke has a BA in Mathematics (1990), an MA in Administrative Sciences (1992), and a Ph.D. in Political Science , each from the University of Colorado at Boulder . Before going to university, he was a scientist at the Environmental and Societal Impacts Group of the National Center for Atmospheric Research from 1993 to 2001 .

Positions

He described Kofi Annan's book Climate Change: The Anatomy of a Silent Crisis at the later disbanded Global Humanitarian Forum as a prime example of how you can lie with statistics. Pielke assumes that increased hurricane damage is by no means a consequence of climate change, but is due to other human factors.

His concept of the " Honest Broker " as a task for scientists who work in politics became a model for Hans von Storch , among others .

His early criticism of the Space Shuttle became known , which he criticized in 1993 as still unsafe and risky. Shortly before the Challenger disaster , he warned of another disaster that was only a matter of time.

Personal

His father, Roger A. Pielke senior, is a well-known climatologist . Pielke himself is married and has three children.
