Roger Fanfant

Roger Fanfant (* 1900 in Pointe-à-Pitre , Guadeloupe , † 1966 ) was a French musician ( accordion , violin ) and band leader of jazz and biguine .

As a teenager, Roger Fanfant first learned the accordion and later the violin. In 1917 he played in a silent movie theater in Pointe-à-Pitre. After completing his military service, he moved to Marseille in 1920 and played in various orchestras there. After his return to Guadeloupe he founded the formation Fany-Jazz , which he expanded in the following years; In 1933 he renamed the orchestra Fairness's Jazz , in which Robert Mavounzy also played at the time . In 1937 Roger Fanfant went with the band to Paris to appear at the 1937 World's Fair and to represent his homeland with the music of Guadeloupe, the Biguine Jazz. In Paris he recorded three records for Pathé with the musician and composer Al Lirvat , a. a. the piece "Touloulou Mi Touloulou A Ou La" .
