Roger de Vautort († around 1163)
Roger de Vautort (also Roger I de Vautort ) († around 1163 ) was an English nobleman.
Roger de Vautort came from the Anglo-Norman family Vautort . He was a son and heir to Reginald de Vautort , who had acquired extensive estates in south-west England after the Norman conquest of England . In 1129 Roger confirmed the Modbury Priory Foundation made by his father and expanded the foundation to include St Stephen's Church at Trematon . After the death of King Henry I , he initially supported the new King Stephen of Blois , but when Reginald de Dunstanville , an illegitimate son of Henry I, became Earl of Cornwall in 1140 and supported his half-sister Matilda's claim to the throne , Vautort also supported Matilda . As the owner of 59 Knight's fees , Vautort was the most important vassal of Earl Reginald, for whom he attested several documents.
Roger married Emma, whose origin is unknown. His son Ralph de Vautort became his heir .
