The pipe mill Maxhütte GmbH is a German company in the steel industry , which mainly produces seamless steel tubes for the energy industry. It is one of only four German producers of seamless steel tubes in Germany and until 2000 belonged to Maxhütte in Sulzbach-Rosenberg , which has already ceased operations.

history

The Rohrwerk Maxhütte goes back to a supervisory board resolution of the Eisenwerk-Gesellschaft Maximilianshütte mbH, which belongs to the Friedrich Flick Group, in which the construction of a pipe mill was decided. The pipe works of Maxhütte was founded as early as 1954.

In 1959 the pipe mill set a world record with a 16-meter-long seamless pipe . In 1972 it was possible for the first time to manufacture roller bearing tubes using the push bench process and subsequent deformation in the stretch-reducing mill. An annealing furnace was installed in the factory in the early 1980s. In 1987 the Maxhütte went bankrupt for the first time; In 1990 the Neue Maxhütte Stahlwerke GmbH (NMH) and the Rohrwerk Neue Maxhütte GmbH were created, whose shareholders were the mining companies Thyssen , Krupp , Klöckner & Co and Mannesmann as well as the Bavarian state.

In 1993 the building contractor Max Aicher from Freilassing joined the company.

In 1998 the Maxhütte went bankrupt for the second time . However, the pipe works was taken over by today's Max Aicher group of companies and - in contrast to the Maxhütte, which ceased operations - saved from the end of operations. In 2003 the Rohrwerk was entered in the commercial register as an independent company under the current name Rohrwerk Maxhütte GmbH. In the years that followed, the production facilities were modernized and expanded.

A third pilgrim machine was purchased in 2010. With purchase and installation, this investment totaled over three million euros. On July 6, 2015, Dirk Mahnke, Chairman of the Management Board, surprisingly left the company. He had been with the company since August 2013. Shortly afterwards, managing director Dr. Stefan Less. Works council chairman Karl-Heinz König regretted the loss of Mahnke and in this context asked the company owner Aicher to make new investments in the pipe mill. He spoke of omissions on the part of the Aicher family, because “the plant cannot be saved by doing without”. In January 2016 the chairman of the works council informed the Working Group for Employee Issues (AfA) about the impending job cuts at the pipe mill.

Products

By manufacturing hot and cold tubes, the tube mill produces seamless steel tubes for various areas of application. The main products are boiler tubes, boiler tubes and threaded tubes, hollow tubes and roller bearing tubes. Mechanical engineering and turned parts pipes and pipes for the transport of water and liquids are also produced.
