Roland Bombardella

Roland Bombardella (born July 9, 1957 in Dudelange , Luxembourg ) is a former Luxembourg sprinter and retired senior officer in the Luxembourg army . He was High Commissioner for National Protection (Haut-Commissaire à la Protection nationale) of the Grand Duchy for six years . He competed in the 100 and 200 meter competitions at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal ; in the short distance he failed in the first lap, over 200 meters he failed in the semifinals by five hundredths of a second to reach the finals.

Bombardella won the Luxembourg championship in the 100 and 200 meters in 1975, 1976 and 1978 . He still holds the Luxembourg State rekorde over 100 feet (10.1 handgestoppt s and 10.41 s electronic) and 200 meters (20.77 seconds).

From 1975 to 1978 he was elected Luxembourg Sportsman of the Year four times in a row .

On January 1, 2006, Jean-Claude Juncker appointed him the new Luxembourg High Commissioner for National Protection. He held this office until August 1, 2012. His successor was Frank Reimen.
