history
Roland Kuffler (born November 15, 1937) began studying languages in Heidelberg in the late 1950s . When he noticed that the foreign students lacked a place to celebrate, he opened a club with fellow students. In Heidelberg he met Erich Kaub shortly afterwards, with whom he opened the student bars Tangente , Tangente Jour and the cabaret ironing board , and later the Café Journal . The two young entrepreneurs founded more bars in university towns all over Germany.
In the 1970s, Kaub and Kuffler moved their company headquarters to Munich. There they turned increasingly to classical food gastronomy; several Wurstkuchl businesses were taken over. In the 1980s, other restaurants were added with the Haxnbauer , the Spatenhaus and the Seehaus , and in 1985 Kufflers Weinzelt Weinzelt at the Oktoberfest.
Kaub and Kuffler separated in the 90s. Roland Kuffler entered into new partnerships in Frankfurt and Wiesbaden. a. with Gerd Käfer, and in Munich with Joseph Peter, with whom he opened the Thai restaurant Mangostin .
In February 2002, Kufflers acquired the Hotel Palace Munich, which they then completely redesigned with high investments and enlarged by an extension in 2017/2018.
At the end of 2016, Roland Kuffler retired from operational business. His sons Stephan and Sebastian Kuffler have been running the business alone since then. Stephan Kuffler completed an apprenticeship in hotel management and a short course at Cornell University before he joined the company in 1992 and became managing director in 1999. Sebastian Kuffler, nine years younger, first completed his studies at the TU Weihenstephan , joined the family business as operations manager in 2008 and has also been managing director since 2016.
