Roland Lebrun (singer)
Roland Lebrun ( Le Soldat Lebrun ; born October 10, 1919 in Amqui , † January 2, 1980 in Québec ) was a Canadian singer-songwriter .
Lebrun, who came from a family of musicians, joined the Canadian Army in 1939 and was stationed at Camp Valcartier. There he began to write songs about the life of a soldier, which he played on the guitar. He recorded his first LP in 1940. With songs such as L'adieu du soldat , N'oublie pas ta prière , Lettre d'un soldat and Prière d'une maman , he achieved enormous popularity in Canada during the Second World War . After the war his success waned noticeably, but by 1966 he had produced more than 200 tracks and released 16 albums. He then retired to Beauport near Québec and only performed occasionally with his wife and five children.
