reception

"The naturalistic, yet expressively exaggerated representation is characteristic of the art of Roland Nicolaus"

“He's undermining the rational. Roland Nikolaus removes the ground from under the feet of normality by locating surreal events in naturalistic landscapes with lush to flashy colors in a confusing and inventive way ... Hybrid beings from the Germania type workshop, model and superstar dominate without any signs of lively individuality or inner involvement the picturesque illusion space. Herbal, tangible, human and socio-political elements enter into meaningful symbiotic ties. Between the precisely painted German boxer, accurate windmills and the fluttering Holy Spirit, there is plenty of room for intellectual irony, for social criticism, but also for allegorical things that increase the surreal content. "
