Life

After graduating from the Otto Hahn Gymnasium in Bergisch Gladbach , Roland Vossebrecker studied piano with W. Neuhaus and conducting with Volker Wangenheim at the Cologne University of Music . From 1991 to 2000 Vossebrecker was director of the Aachen student orchestra (including performances of works by Beethoven, Schubert, Schumann, Brahms, Wagner, Franck and many more). In 1992 he completed his conducting exam concert with the Cologne University Orchestra and works by B. Martinů - viola concert and A. Webern - six orchestral pieces op. 6. He lives as a freelance composer, conductor, pianist and teaches these subjects in Bergisch Gladbach. From May to October 1994 he was a scholarship holder of the Foundation for Art and Culture of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia. In this context, the new version of the “Lyric Requiem” for large orchestra and the composition of the concerto for 21 instruments were created. In 1998 the composition “Lyric Requiem” based on texts by children from the Theresienstadt concentration camp was performed . As a teacher as well as a composer, he is particularly interested in conveying an emotional and intellectual understanding of music. In workshops and seminars, he gives the curious music lover an insight into the way composers think and work. Vossebrecker composed numerous piano, chamber music, ensemble and orchestral works. Roland Vossebrecker is married and has two children.

A piano book (2004)

The piano book (2004) is considered to be one of the composer's main works and is an example of his compositional work:

The work consists of 34 short sentences that are related to one another in a variety of ways. The appeal of the work consists on the one hand in the varied and entertaining sequence of many succinct character pieces, on the other hand in the understanding of the refined and sometimes spectacular cross connections that exist between the movements.
For example, there is an étude for the left hand alone, as well as the theme and variations for the right hand alone, and these two pieces at the same time. There are several movements of completely different character, all moving towards the same climax. There are two children's pieces (composed for the composer's two children); there is something exciting, meditative, dramatic and humorous, integrated into a refined form concept.

In 2007/08 the continuation of the piano book Volume 2 was created, which contains several allusions to the first volume, but comes up with a new formal concept.
