history

The company was founded in 1964 by Rolf Benz with 35 employees. In 1980 the company got into an economic crisis; the shaft holding from Paderborn took over the majority stake in the former Rolf Benz GmbH. However, the company remained independent. In 1993 it was converted into a stock corporation, which went public in 1994. At the end of 1998, Welle Holding sold its shares to the hülsta group. In response to this, Rolf Benz left the company on March 31, 1999. In 1999 the company achieved an annual turnover of 285.5 million DM (at the exchange rate at that time approx. 146 million euros) and employed 917 people. In mid-2000, the company announced its withdrawal from the stock exchange and has been trading as a limited partnership since October 12, 2000 .

The company has been ISO 9001 certified for quality management since 2007 .

Rolf Benz today has around 450 employees who still manufacture the furniture largely by hand. The products in the collection are in the medium to high price segment. The Rolf Benz 3100 armchair , designed by Stefan Heiliger , is now a design classic.

In December 2016 , the Federal Cartel Office imposed fines of 4.43 million euros on five German furniture manufacturers for illegal methods of enforcing prices on cheaper furniture dealers . Rolf Benz GmbH & Co. KG was also affected by this. Some of the furniture manufacturers have also had their fines reduced because they are financially weak and are going through a reorganization or restructuring process.
