Rolf Borzik

Rolf Borzik (born July 29, 1944 in Posen , † January 27, 1980 in Essen ) was a German costume and set designer.

Life

After his father's death in 1945, Rolf Borzik's family moved from Posen to Detmold , where he attended school. In 1957 the family moved to Aerdenhout in the Netherlands. After graduating from secondary school, the young Borzik began studying art first in Haarlem , then in Amsterdam and Paris . In 1967 he switched to the Folkwang School in Essen . There he met the choreographer Pina Bausch . In 1973 both were appointed to the Tanztheater Wuppertal , she as director, he as costume and set designer. With their unconventional productions and the connection with other media, such as the opera, they developed completely new forms of dance theater and Wuppertal became one of the most renowned places in international dance. In 1980 Rolf Borzik died of leukemia .
