Rolf Hiersche

Rolf Hiersche (born July 28, 1924 in Sömmerda ; † July 24, 1996 in Gießen ) was a German linguist and Indo-Europeanist .

Life

Hiersche graduated from high school in 1942 and studied Classical Philology , Indology and Indo-European Studies at the University of Jena from 1945 . In 1951 he made his diploma, from 1951 to 1957 he was a research assistant at the Humboldt University in Berlin , in 1952 he received his doctorate. From 1957 to 1962 he was a research assistant at the Free University of Berlin , where he also completed his habilitation in 1962. From 1962 he was an adjunct professor at the Indo-European seminar at the Free University of Berlin, from 1970 a full professor for comparative linguistics at the University of Giessen . In 1989 he retired.
