Rolf Michel

Rolf Michel (born January 21, 1945 in Tambach-Dietharz ) is a German physicist . He has been Professor of Radiation Protection at Leibniz University in Hanover since 1984 . He has been retired since 2010.

He was a member of the German Radiation Protection Commission (SSK) from 1999 to 2006 and has been a member of the SSK again since 2008, of which he was chairman from January 2008 to December 2011 inclusive. He is also a member of the SSK crisis team (temporarily as chairman). In 2008/2009 he was President of the German-Swiss Association for Radiation Protection.

For his many years of service to radiation protection, he and two other members of the Radiation Protection Commission, the former chairwoman Maria Blettner and the then chairman Wolfgang-Ulrich Müller , received the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon on September 17, 2015 .

His work focuses on the areas of radiation transport , radiation detection and radio analysis, production of radionuclides in nuclear reactions , the interaction of cosmic rays with matter and radioecology .
