Rolf Parr

Rolf Parr (born September 22, 1956 in Essen ) is professor of German studies (literature and media studies) at the University of Duisburg-Essen , where he heads the master’s course in “Literature and Media Practice”.

Life

After studying German, philosophy and pedagogy at the Ruhr University in Bochum , he worked there as a research assistant and started work in 1989 with the work “'Two souls live, ah! in my chest! ' Structures and functions of the mythization of Bismarck (1860–1918) ”.
Rolf Parr completed his habilitation in 1996 at the University of Dortmund in the subject of "Modern German Literature" with a study on literary-cultural associations ("Interdiscursive As-Sociation. Studies on literary-cultural associations, groups and associations from the Vormärz to the First World War") ).
After that he was a university lecturer at the University of Dortmund , visiting professor at the changing chair of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia at the University of Leiden / NL and from 2004 to 2010 professor for literary studies and didactics at the University of Bielefeld . There he was in charge of the master's degree in “Interdisciplinary Media Studies” until he moved to the University of Duisburg-Essen (2010).
Rolf Parr's main areas of work are: literary, media and cultural theory / history from the 18th to the 21st century; (Inter) discourse theory and research on normalism; Collective symbolism; Mythization of historical figures; literary life / literature business, literature / media relations; Watch TV; multilingual literature and media presentations of work.

Awards, honors

  • 1999: Award of the dissertation as particularly outstanding scientific work with the price of the Ruhr University Bochum for the year 1990.
  • 2016: Appointment as Honorary President of the International Wilhelm Raabe Society.
  • 2018: Diversity Prize from the University of Duisburg-Essen in the research category.
