The 1997 season was the fifth season of Roller Hockey International . The regular season was played by the ten teams in the summer months. There were 24 games to play and the best eight teams qualified for the play-offs . The fifth Murphy Cup winner was the Anaheim Bullfrogs , who prevailed in the Best of Three final series against the New Jersey Rockin Rollers with 2–0.
Change of teams
The following changes were made before the season:
- The Minnesota Artic Blast , Philadelphia Bulldogs , San Diego Barracudas, and Vancouver Voodoo broke up.
- The Oakland Skates and Oklahoma Coyotes left the league, but continued to exist.
- The Empire State Cobras became the Buffalo Wings.
- The Ottawa Loggers called themselves Ottawa Wheels.
