The 1994 season was the second season of Roller Hockey International . The regular season for the 24 teams began in May 1994 and ended in August. There were 22 games to play, the best eight teams from each conference qualified for the play-offs , which lasted until September. The second Murphy Cup winner was the Buffalo Stampede , who prevailed in the Best of Three final series against the Portland Rage with 2–0.
On July 9, 1994, the first RHI All-Star Game took place in Vancouver at the Pacific Coliseum . In front of 16,150 spectators, the selection of the Eastern Conference prevailed against that of the Western Conference with 11: 6.
Change of league structure and teams
The following changes were made before the season:
- The Toronto Planets disbanded.
- The Connecticut Coasters became the Sacramento River Rats and the Utah Rollerbees became the Las Vegas Flash.
- As an extension of the league, the following 13 teams were founded: Atlanta Fire Ants , Buffalo Stampede , Chicago Cheetahs , Edmonton Sled Dogs , Minnesota Arctic Blast , Montreal Roadrunners , New England Stingers , New Jersey Rockin Rollers , Philadelphia Bulldogs , Phoenix Cobras , Pittsburgh Phantoms , San Jose Rhinos and Tampa Bay Tritons .
- The three previous divisions were dissolved and replaced by the Eastern Conference and the Western Conference. The two conferences were again divided into two divisions. Then the four divisions were divided according to geographic aspects.
