A roll hoop barrel is a steel barrel which is crimped for easier transport and greater stability . The standard capacity is 55 gallons or 216.5 liters and they are mainly used to transport fuels and chemicals.

Steel rolling hoop drums were invented shortly before 1900. The manufacturing process has remained largely unchanged since then: The sheets for the barrel hulls are shaped on a bending machine and then electrically welded together. Then the beads are pressed into the sheet metal and the base and cover are seamed. The wall thickness is 0.8 to 1.4 mm.

The largest German manufacturer of rolling hoop drums is the Mauser company .
