Roman Haller (entrepreneur)

Roman Haller (born May 10, 1944 in Tarnopol ) is a survivor of the Holocaust and recipient of the Medal of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany .

Life

Roman Haller was born on May 10, 1944 in Tarnopol (today's Ukraine). Thanks to the efforts of Irene Gut and Eduard Rügemer, he survived the Holocaust together with his parents Ida and Lazar Haller in hiding. After the war he grew up in Munich , where he still lives today. As a self-employed person, he has built up several successful companies and has also taken on numerous voluntary charitable tasks.

Haller was President of the B'nai B'rith of Germany and Austria, the Cancer Aid for Israel and Vice-President of Keren Hayessod . Since 2006 he has been the director of the successor organization of the Claims Conference , the legal successor according to § 2.1 VermG for unclaimed and heirless Jewish assets in East Germany.

Haller is the author of various books on the post-war history of Jews in Germany. The life of his parents and the circumstances of his birth are processed in a play that was first performed on Broadway in March 2009 under the title "Irena's Vow".
