Roman Holowinsky (born July 26, 1979 ) is an American mathematician who deals with analytical number theory (for example sieving methods), automorphic forms and L-functions.

Holowinsky studied at Rutgers University , where he obtained his bachelor's degree in mathematics and computer science in 2001 and his doctorate under Henryk Iwaniec in 2006 (shifted convolution sums and quantum unique ergodicity). As a post-doctoral student he was at the Institute for Advanced Study in 2006/2007 (also as a guest in 2009/2010) and from 2008 at the University of Toronto and the Fields Institute in Toronto. Since 2009 he has been an assistant professor at Ohio State University .

With Kannan Soundararajan he succeeded in proving the quantum uniqueness-ergodicity conjecture (QUE, Quantum Unique Ergodicity Conjecture by Peter Sarnak , Zeev Rudnick 1991, inspired by problems from the quantum chaos ) for module surfaces. It deals with questions of uniform distribution of the zeros of eigenfunctions of the Laplace operator on these surfaces. Soundararajan and Holowinsky approached the problem (on which many well-known mathematicians worked and which had previously been solved by Elon Lindenstrauss for Mass waveforms) in different ways - in the end their results complemented each other.

In 2011 he received the SASTRA Ramanujan Prize . In the same year he became a Sloan Fellow.
