Romanus of Nepi

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Romanus († allegedly in the 1st century in Nepi ) was, according to legend, an early Christian martyr .

Romanus is said to have been a philosopher and was converted to Christianity by Ptolemy of Nepi , the legendary first bishop of the city , supposedly appointed by Peter . He then officiated as bishop in Nepi himself and, like Ptolemy, suffered a martyr's death under Nero . Its historical existence is questionable. Romanus is venerated as a saint ; his feast day is celebrated together with Ptolemy on August 24th .
