Romeo (file system)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Romeo is the name of a file system for CD-ROMs .

It was developed by Adaptec together with the Easy-CD-Pro burning program as an extension of the specification for CD-ROM file systems according to ISO 9660 for Windows 9x , ME , NT and 2000 . It is technically in competition with Joliet . 128 characters are possible for file and directory names, but no Unicode characters. Romeo is not backwards compatible with ISO 9660. There are no implementations outside of the Windows operating systems. When used under DOS , the file names are cut after the eighth character, which can lead to ambiguity in the file names, provided that the first eight characters match.

Adaptec does not develop Romeo any further; it is called obsolete.
