Romeo Antoniazzi

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Romeo Antoniazzi (born May 4, 1862 in Cremona , † May 7, 1925 in Milan ) was an Italian violin maker. He was the son of the violin maker Gaetano Antoniazzi and the brother of the violin maker Riccardo Antoniazzi . Together with his brother, Antoniazzi was largely responsible for the fact that Italian violin making knowledge shifted from Cremona to Milan.

Romeo Antoniazzi was probably trained as a violin maker by his older brother Riccardo. In violin making, he did not quite reach the level of his brother. He showed a certain discontinuity in his professional life. He worked alternately for his brother, for Leandro Bisiach and for the Monzino and Sons workshop . He reached the peak of his career towards the end of the 19th century. Signed instruments from this period are rare, however, as he mainly worked for other clients. His late work is particularly variable in terms of craftsmanship and the quality of the instruments. The instruments of this era in particular were often copied. Overall, his instruments show spontaneous quality. The color of the paint ranges from pale yellow-orange to dark brown.
