Ronnie Campbell (born August 14, 1943 in Tynemouth ) is a British politician . He belongs to the Labor Party and represented in the House of Commons since the British general election, in 1987 the constituency Blyth Valley of the county of Northumberland .

biography

Campbell has seven siblings, became a miner after leaving school and participated in the British miners' strike of 1984/1985 . In the course of this he was arrested twice. He also served as a senior member of the National Union of Mineworkers . Campbell only met his half-brother in adulthood, as he was given up for adoption .

In the wake of the 2009 parliamentary spending scandal, Campbell said he wanted to repay over £ 6,000 for the furniture in his London apartment. In the course of the British general election in 2015 , he announced that he would not run again after this, but changed his mind. He voted against the UK general election in 2017 .

Campbell is considered a socialist and supporter of Jeremy Corbyn . He was negative towards Ed Miliband and called him a right-winger . Campbell was one of 22 Labor MPs who voted against same-sex marriage in 2013 . Campbell is in favor of the UK leaving the EU and said in 2017 “ I am a leaver, and I always have been. MPs are elected unlike the EU bureaucrats, and if people don't like how MPs vote then they can get rid of us and that's how it should work. "(" I am and always have been a supporter of the Brexit. In June 2019, he announced that he would no longer run in the next general election.
