Rosalie Gardiner Jones
Rosalie Gardiner Jones (born February 24, 1883 - February 1978 ) was an American suffragette from Oyster Bay (New York) . The organizer of various protest marches became known in the press as "General Jones".
Jones came from a wealthy family. Parents, Mary and Oliver Livingston Jones usually lived in a New York city apartment on East 72nd Street and owned a summer home built in 1783 on Cold Spring Road in Oyster Bay, Long Island . Jones attended Adelphi College, a girls' school in Brooklyn, and graduated from Brooklyn Law School. At the age of 28 she campaigned for women's suffrage and joined the somewhat more militant British suffragettes , rather than the more mediating suffragists .
She got involved with Harriot Eaton Stanton Blatch and took a leading position in the 1913 Suffrage Hikes . The nickname General comes from that time .
