Rosamond S. King

Rosamond S. King (born in the USA ) is a Gambian literary scholar and writer.

Life

King's father was a Gambian doctor who lived in the USA, her mother came from Trinidad and Tobago . She grew up in the USA.

King graduated from Cornell University with a bachelor's degree in literature and linguistics in 1996 . In 1998 she received a master's degree in comparative literature from New York University and received her PhD there in 2001 with a thesis on immigration in the literature of the Caribbean.

By 2006 she was an Assistant Professor on the Long Island University Brooklyn campus . In 2006/2007 she received a Fulbright grant for a research project on Gambian literature.

In 2008 she moved to Brooklyn College , where she became an associate professor . In September 2018 she was appointed director of the Ethyle R. Wolfe Institute .

In addition to his academic work, King published poems in more than two dozen anthologies and publications. She also performs at readings and stages her poems. Your collection of poems Rock | Salt | Stone (2017) received a positive response and has received several awards.

King was also President of the Organization of Women Writers of Africa (OWWA) and Creative Editor of the literature platform sx salon . She is also involved in various LGBT projects .

  • 2015 Caribbean Studies Association Gordon K. and Sybil Lewis Prize for Island bodies .
  • 2018: Lambda Literary Award in the category Lesbian Poetry for Rock | Salt | Stone
