Rose Hall is the smallest town in Guyana with a population of around 3583 . It lies in the province of East Berbice-Corentyne . Rose Hall was built by Dutch settlers, later bought by field slaves. In 1908 it was given the status of a village and only became a city in 1970. The city has an area of 13 km². There are three neighborhoods: Middle Rose Hall, East Rose Hall, and Williamsburg. In 1913 there was riot among field workers at Rose Hall.
Rose Hall is mainly used as a marketplace in the Berbice region to buy raw materials for clothing and groceries. There are two banks and a number of shops in the areas mentioned above. Rose Hall has a cricket team, the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club.
Known residents
- Nezam Hafiz (1969-2001), Guyanese-American cricketer who was killed on September 11, 2001 in the New York attacks.
