Rose twig house

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The former listed Rosenzweighaus from the 16th century was located at Marktplatz 5 in Mühlhausen in Middle Franconia . It was unjustifiably torn down at the end of 2010. With the demolition, Mühlhausen hit the headlines nationwide. The half-timbered building had a floor plan with three naves with four zones. The year of construction could be dated to the year 1584 through dendrochronological investigations . The roof structure is a two-storey rafter roof with two reinforcing collar beam layers. The wood material of the north facade dates from 1690/91, the south facade was renewed after 1733. The hipped roof also dates from after 1733.

The house in the center of the village stood empty for several decades before it was acquired by the municipality. Attempts to find a buyer or to move the house to an open-air museum failed because the fabric of the building was too poor. The demolition was decided by the municipal council on November 9, 2010. The legal basis was a demolition permit from 2000, the validity of which was questioned by the State Office for Monument Protection. Because of this decision, a heated discussion broke out between supporters and opponents of the demolition. The State Office for Monument Protection wanted to have a constitutional complaint examined. The impending delay prompted those responsible for the community to accelerate the execution. Before the announced continuation of negotiations with the opponents of the demolition, the house was demolished on December 20, 2010. The monument authority described the process as “a signal for other municipalities to take care of the intensely threatened historical heritage”.
