The Rosi-Mittermaier-Tunnel is a single-tube road tunnel in the Ötztal Alps in Tyrol . It is named after the ski racer Rosi Mittermaier , although streets are usually not named after living people. The length of the tube is 1729 m.
It was opened as the Tiefenbach tunnel in 1982, its south portal is at 2829 m above sea level. A. Höhe, is the highest road tunnel in Europe and leads the Ötztaler Gletscherstraße from the Rettenbachferner to the valley station of the Tiefenbachbahn. The tunnel can be used by all types of motor vehicles (semi-trailers up to 38 t). There is a regular bus service through the tunnel. It can also be crossed on foot, there is no ban on use.
