Ötztal Glacier Road

The Ötztal Glacier Road in Tyrol ( Austria ) runs from Sölden to the Rettenbachferner and Tiefenbachferner . It was built in 1972 and then branched off from the existing road to Hochsölden . The road section to the Tiefenbachferner runs through the Rosi-Mittermaier-Tunnel , the highest road tunnel in Europe, which was named after the former German ski racer Rosi Mittermaier . At the end of the tunnel, the road reaches the 2829  m above sea level. A. highest point in the Alps that can be reached by paved road. It can be reached in the summer months through the tunnel with a normal car, motorcycle, bicycle or on foot. Then it goes to the slightly lower parking lot in front of the ski lift to the Tiefenbachferner. Driving on the 15 km long road is subject to a toll. The operator is the Bergbahnen Sölden Group .
