Ross Honsberger (born June 2, 1929 in Toronto , Ontario , † April 3, 2016 in Waterloo , Ontario) was a Canadian mathematician and author of entertainment mathematics .

Honsberger studied mathematics at the University of Toronto (Bachelor's degree) and then worked as a teacher in Toronto for over ten years before continuing his studies at the University of Waterloo (Master's degree). Since 1964 he has been at the Faculty of Mathematics, where he is now retired. He dealt with combinatorics and optimization, but especially with mathematics education. He developed school courses, for example on combinatorial geometry, gave frequent lectures for students and math teachers and was editor of the Ontario Secondary School Mathematics Bulletin. He wrote numerous books on elementary mathematics (geometry, number theory, combinatorics, probability theory) and entertainment mathematics (often published by the Mathematical Association of America , MAA), using the book by Hans Rademacher and Otto Toeplitz Von Numbers and Figures as a model serves. He also often deals with problems from the math Olympiads and other competitions.
