Rotation diet

The rotation diet is a method developed by H. Rinkel in 1933 and further developed by Th. Randolph in 1970 to identify food intolerance or a masked allergy to food . It belongs to the procedures of complementary medicine .

principle

The principle is to eliminate any food that is intolerable. Food may only be eaten once within the given rhythm. Only foods from one food family may be consumed within a cycle. A food item on the rotation diet may only be consumed again on the fourth day at the earliest. Foods with similar ingredients are not consumed on consecutive days because the ingredients are only eliminated after this period.

The ingredients of the rotation diet should be kept as manageable as possible and there should be an interval of 4 hours between meals and the compatible foods should not be consumed constantly in order to avoid habituation and thus a possible new intolerance .

criticism

In a statement by the specialist commission of the Swiss Society for Allergology and Immunology (SGAI) on the immunoglobulin G (IgG) / IG4 determination against food, it is stated that the patients assigned to check the alleged food allergy due to the uselessness of the rotation diets carried out mostly do not have any food allergies and thus there is also no specific IgE, so that the useless rotation diet at least caused no harm. The greatest risk of such a diet is the threat of nutrient deficits due to the prohibition of certain, individually different foods.

Demarcation

The rotation diet should not be confused with a rotation diet plan to achieve weight loss. A diet routine is adhered to in which a strict three-week diet routine is followed by one week during which you can eat without restrictions. This form of rotation diet was invented by M. Katahn as part of the Weight Management Program in 1986. The goal was a diet plan that should guarantee a maximum of weight loss by controlling the calorie intake on the basis of changing food supply.
