Red trash can
The red trash cans in Hamburg are fire-red painted public waste bins that advertise their use with a speech bubble and mostly short texts and have meanwhile won several design awards.
They go back to a campaign by city cleaning in May 2005 for more cleanliness in the city and a previously advertised ideas competition. The concept of the talking red rubbish bin comes from the advertising agency MKK and intended, on the one hand, to encourage passers-by to use the garbage disposal facilities through the striking color in contrast to the bins that were previously gray, but especially through the brisk or funny slogans. According to the city cleaning service, this concept has also worked.
There are now around 9100 of these red rubbish bins in the city. The sayings are partially renewed or adapted to current events. For example, a slogan campaign was started for the 2006 soccer World Cup ( I'm a clean man or Den even my grandma gets in ) or for Christopher Street Day some of the speech bubbles were labeled I'm a dirt queen and the like. On September 8, 2011, the Day of the German Language, the campaign was awarded the Elbschwanenorden of the Association of German Language , because the puns used do not use Anglicisms and are at a level "that allows intelligent people to smile."
