location

The Rote Haubarg is located south of the municipality of Simonsberg in Adolfskoog . It is about 1.5 kilometers away from the North Sea . Witzwort is around three kilometers south.

history

In 1647 a wealthy farmer built a Haubarg in Adolfskoog, which was diked between 1575 and 1579. According to tradition, it was not roofed with thatch like other houses of this type , but with red bricks, and was therefore called "Red Haubarg". The house burned down in 1759 and was replaced by the current building. Although the Haubarg received a thatched roof this time, the previous name was retained. According to another version, the bricks were originally red and were only later plastered white.

The Rote Haubarg came into the possession of the "Stiftung Nordfriesland" in 1983, which is based on the "Asmussen-Woldsen Legacy".

Architecture and use

The Haubarg is unusually high with a ridge height of 17 meters. Like all Haubarge it has a rectangular floor plan and stands on eight stands . It has 99 windows.

The Rote Haubarg is open to the public. It operates as a restaurant and museum. The restaurant is located in the former living rooms. An exhibition on the history of Eiderstedter agriculture is shown in the museum.
