Karl Rothammel

Karl Rothammel (born December 25, 1914 in Fürth ; † November 29, 1987 in Sonneberg ) was a German non-fiction author and radio amateur . He was the author of the first editions of Rothammels Antennenbuch , a standard German work on antenna technology .

Life

Rothammel had been a radio amateur since 1932, initially under the call sign DE3040 / L. Since 1954 he was active under the callsign DM2ABK and from 1980 until his death under Y21BK or Y30ABK.

During the Second World War he was an air force operator. After the war he worked as an innkeeper and farmer. He then worked for ten years in the GDR postal service , where he looked after radio and television broadcasting systems . This was followed by twenty-five years of work in the information and documentation center at the radio equipment factory Stern-Radio .

As a radio amateur, he was the club station manager in Sonneberg and a member of the examination committee in the Suhl district for many years .

In amateur radio, he was mainly active in the VHF area and worked for several years as a VHF speaker in the GDR radio club. Rothammel made the first connections on the 2-meter tape from the GDR to France, Great Britain, Luxembourg, Belgium, Denmark and the Netherlands from his VHF location “Gaststätte Blockhütte” .
