Rothertshausen is a district of the Neuenkirchen community in the Osnabrück district of Lower Saxony . The formerly independent community was incorporated into the new unified community of Neuenkirchen in 1972.

Rothertshausen is located in the southern municipality of Neuenkirchen on the border with the North Rhine-Westphalian municipality of Recke .

Vinter Moor

The district was settled between 1914 and 1926 as a moor colony in the Lower Saxony part of the Vinter Moor. In the following years, a large part of the former 50 km² moor was drained and cultivated. The peat factory "Vinter Torfindustrie" mined peat in Rothershausen until the early 1990s. The last remaining moorland in the area of ​​Recke is now called Recker Moor and is under nature protection.
