The red-headed weaver ( Quelea erythrops ) is an African species from the family of weaver birds (Ploceidae). It is occasionally kept as an ornamental bird in Europe.
description
The redhead weaver reaches a body length of twelve centimeters. The male has a bright red head in its splendid dress. The light gray beak with a light gray beak base is set apart from this. This red is missing in the resting plumage. The male then resembles the female, which has a brown and blackish feathers striped vertically like most sparrows.
The clutch consists of two eggs. The incubation period is 14 days and the nestling period is 21 days. They will be looked after by the parent birds for a further two weeks.
The distribution area of the red head weaver stretches from Senegal to Ethiopia and south to Natal and west to Angola. The habitat are moist savannahs and grasslands.
