Rough fur

Rough fur.

Rough Fell is a breed of sheep originally from the English areas of Cumbria and the North York Moors , which today is mainly found in the mountainous regions of England. It is characterized by its extremely long wool and great resistance even in harsh weather conditions.

The animals are short and stocky and both sexes have horns. Adult bucks weigh 75 to 90 kilograms, sheep 45 to 55 kilograms. They are usually kept in the traditional Heaf system: on open land together with other flocks of sheep, whereby a home instinct acquired over many generations ensures that they do not leave their traditional area, the Heaf . The animals are mainly kept for the production of wool and are often crossed with other sheep breeds in order to breed them more resistant.
