The Rourke Art Museum

The Rourke Art Museum in Moorhead , Minnesota is a fine arts museum founded by James O'Rourke in 1965. It is located in the former post office built in 1915 at 521 Main Avenue. The museum originated as the Red River Art Center and was named Plains Art Museum ten years later. After the founding director O'Rourke left the museum in 1987, the Plains Art Museum and Rourke Museum separated; both institutions became independent again.

The permanent collection comprises more than four thousand works of art, most of which were brought together by James O'Rourke and to a large extent still require art historical processing. The artists represented include Andy Warhol , James Rosenquist , Jim Dine , Roy Lichtenstein , Robert Rauschenberg , Moritz Götze , David Gilhooly, Leonard Baskin , Fritz Scholder, Luis Jimenez, Joan Miró , Salvador Dalí , Marc Chagall and Adolf Dehn.
