Roy Sentjens (born December 15, 1980 in Neerpelt ) is a former Belgian cyclist . Initially, he had dual citizenship. His mother is Belgian and his father is Dutch .

Career

In 2001, Sentjens won the U23 event of the Tour of Flanders and then got a professional contract with Rabobank for the coming season . There he has been part of the youth team since 1997. In 2003 he celebrated his greatest success to date by winning the Belgian semi-classic Kuurne – Brussels – Kuurne . A year later he won a stage on the Noord-Nederland Tour .

On August 16, 2010, Roy Sentjens tested positive for EPO and was subsequently suspended from Team Milram . Sentjens announced his immediate retirement from cycling and gave private and health reasons as reasons for doping; he suffers from Guillain-Barré syndrome , a disease of the nervous system that leads to paralysis. In December 2010 he was banned for two years with retroactive effect from September 9th. On September 9, 2012, he returned to the peloton as a member of the de Rijke cycling team.

At the end of the 2013 season he ended his career as a professional cyclist.
